5 tips for a festive Christmas table

Christmas, the perfect time to pull out all the stops—literally and figuratively! You can show off your finest tableware, and with these tips, your table will be one big Christmas celebration.

Tip 1. Choose a color or theme. You don't have to worry about it being too colorful when you choose a specific color or theme. This also makes it easier for you, because you can collect everything for your Christmas table within a specific color/theme. See what you already have at home, browse flea markets and thrift stores, or treat yourself to some beautiful new tableware. I found this beautiful green tablecloth by Ralph Lauren at TK Maxx (tip: they often have beautiful table linens there!) and decided to go for stylish green this year!

Tip 2. The basis of the Christmas table: the tablecloth Setting the table starts with the tablecloth, which largely determines the atmosphere. It doesn't have to be an expensive cloth. You can also buy a long piece of fabric at the market, but textiles quickly give the table a warm, chic look. This also applies to napkins. Use linen or cotton and try to limit the paper versions to the children's table at Christmas... although in my opinion, you're never too young to eat from a nice set of tableware and a stylishly set table ;-)

Tip 3. Focus your table decorations in the center of the table. Create a runner across the center of the table using beautiful natural branches, as these always work well. For this table, I started with large pine branches, between which I placed eucalyptus with some extra greenery from the garden. I thought the colors of peacock feathers matched the greenery nicely and added a touch of color to the whole arrangement. I also incorporated a number of green Christmas baubles and various candlesticks between the branches. Combine tall and short candles to create depth and an interesting overall effect.

Tip 4. Go all out with tablewareTableware makes or breaks the Christmas table. It's very nice to use the same tableware everywhere, but you can also mix and match. At Christmas, the more plates, cutlery, and glasses, the better! Lay out everything you need and the table will become a sparkling centerpiece for your guests. Don't have enough tableware for everyone? Borrow from family or friends and combine it with what you have. Tip 5. Start early Last but not least... start setting the table early! I often do it the night before, so I have the whole day to tidy up the house and put the finishing touches on the Christmas dinner.

Have fun setting the table and make it a wonderful celebration!

Merry Christmas!
