Not only do we love to illustrate with food, but you can also use it to decorate beautiful tables. For my dinner party tonight, I wanted something different than flowers, so I created a colorful autumn arrangement using the most beautiful seasonal fruits and vegetables. Except for the ivy and berries, I got everything from the supermarket!
Step 1. Cut a few branches of ivy (bay leaves or eucalyptus will also work) for the base and find some nice pieces of fruit and vegetables that are in season. In this case, I chose:
3 artichokes, 1 pomegranate, 1 pumpkin, 3 bunches of grapes, 1 pine cone, 1 orange, 3 red onions, 9 sprigs of ivy, and 3 sprigs of berries.
Step 2. It's not essential, but using a piece of oasis (floral foam) will help everything stay in place a little better. So first soak it in a bowl of water.
Step 3. Find a nice large bowl. Round for a round table, rectangular or oval for a long table, and place the oasis in it.
Step 4. Stick the ivy into the floral foam all around the edge to create a bed for the decorative pieces.
Step 5. Distribute the three artichokes over the dish and stick them into the oasis as well. Drape the grape bunches in between and place the pumpkin in the middle. Fill in the other gaps with the pomegranate and onions. I added a few red berry sprigs to make the piece more playful.
Step 6. Place the piece nicely in the center of the table, light some candles around it, and you're done!
The beautiful butterfly plates are, of course, from our beautiful butterfly collection “La dolce vita di una Farfalla.”
