How Catchy came to life

During an interview for VIVACE Magazine, I suddenly found myself saying that the Christmas edition of our dachshund series, "It's a Wienerful Time," was already our 19th series since we launched the fish collection "North Sea Full of Character" in 2018. A lightbulb moment immediately came to Karen and me—PING! The 20th had to be a Party Edition!

From fish to party fish

We quickly agreed that we wanted to do something with fish. That's still our passion, and we're still often asked if we'd ever release a new fish collection. "North Sea Full of Character" was an instant success—the launch of Bordy's—and how great would it be if our very first customers could expand their fish plates with a new fish set?

On the way home, I mused on the theme. That's how the idea for a Mediterranean Chic vibe came about. Meanwhile, Karen dove into her studio, already thinking about glitter dresses and sequins. We quickly agreed that it had to be Mediterranean fish. But how exactly the party theme should fit within that idea, we each had our own ideas.

Humor is hidden in the character

Various sketches were reviewed—all beautiful, as always—but the real "YES!" was still missing. It felt like déjà vu from the development of our very first series. After the first sketches and a few rounds of feedback with some of our dear customers, we suddenly saw what was missing. The solution was exactly the same as before: we still lacked a clear character. And Bordy's signature humor lies in the character of the fish—with another nod to our own characters.

Our customers often recognize themselves in the various characters, or they recognize someone at the table in them. As a result, everyone has their own favorite fish—and therefore a favorite dish. This discovery brought us back to the strength of Bordy's: plates with a story that bring a smile to the table.

The party fish got colorful

After that, things moved quickly: character sketches, mood boards, painting, ideas. Karen worked for days in her studio, while I soaked up the Mediterranean atmosphere in Ibiza and Formentera, writing the stories... and of course, many hours in the studio afterward.

We think we've really outdone ourselves with this new series. It's become a Party Edition, focusing on the personalities of the fish — with a nod to our own party types: from BBQ masters to patio goers and clubbers.

Everyone will recognize themselves in one of the fish. And hopefully, with Catchy, we'll not only bring a smile to the table, but also turn it into a party together!
