Sometimes the fruit in the fruit bowl doesn't look so fresh and juicy anymore. In the summer, these bruised friends disappear into a smoothie, but now I've discovered clafoutis. It's one of the easiest desserts/cakes to make, and you can use any kind of fruit you like. Truly delicious!
Ingredients
+/- 500 g fruit
80 g flour
4 eggs
Pinch of salt
125 g sugar
30 g butter
150 ml milk
Powdered sugar
Step 1. Choose your fruit Clafoutis is a dessert from French cuisine and is traditionally made with cherries covered in a batter of eggs, milk, flour, and sugar. But all variations are possible: plums, apples, pears, raspberries, blackberries, apricots, figs... Basically, you can use anything you have in your fruit bowl. I used grapes that didn't look so fresh anymore, but were still fine for baking.
Step 2. Make your batter Beat the eggs with the sugar. Add the flour, milk, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
Step 3. Spread your fruit over the bottom You can spread the grapes whole over the bottom, but I like it when the fruit is completely absorbed into the batter. I cut the grapes in half and spread them over the bottom of a buttered dish. Pour the mixture over it.
Step 4. Bake in the oven Bake for 50 minutes at 180°C. Allow to cool before serving.
Step 5. Enjoy it warm or cold You can eat clafoutis warm or cold. I like to eat it warm, but not too hot, so I usually let it sit for at least 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Traditionally, clafoutis is sprinkled with powdered sugar to make it look even more appealing.
Tip: eat the cold leftovers the next morning for breakfast with yogurt!
