Choose a calm base
Go for a fun and beautiful tablecloth or placemats in linen or cotton. Soft colors such as beige, white, or pastel create a fresh and warm look and allow your eye-catchers to stand out beautifully, such as the flower and butterfly tableware from Bordy's on this table.
Work in layers
I've said it before, but I can't repeat it often enough ;-) Layers make an impression! They create depth and a luxurious look. Stack lots of tableware (even if you're not going to use all the plates during your dinner party) on underplates and/or placemats and, as the icing on the cake, place the napkins on top.
Flowers from the roadside
Mother's Day always falls on the second Sunday in May, when the roadsides are full of beautiful flowers. Take a walk and bring your scissors! You can cut a whole bouquet that will look lovely on the table. You can choose colorful wildflowers, or subtle bluebells. My favorite!
Folding napkins into roses
For Mother's Day, I thought it would be nice to fold napkins into roses. Here are the steps:- Place a square napkin flat in front of you with the back facing up.- Fold the napkin diagonally into a triangle.- Roll the long side of the triangle tightly toward the tip. - Carefully pull the tip of the roll outward so that it begins to resemble the petals of a rose. - Turn the top of the roll inward to form the petals. - Place the rose on a plate or in a glass as decoration.
Or watch our reel on Instagram to see how we set this table, including how to fold the napkins!
Happy Mother's Day!
